The leaves are turning and the temperature is dropping – fall is fully upon us. And with fall comes Halloween. If you’re taking children out for trick-or-treating, its important to keep your own house well lit, or even set lights on a timer. Reflective tape on children’s costumes can help them be seen easier in the dark. Make sure any children that have cell phones leave the house with them fully charged, and know emergency numbers by heart.

Things to Consider When Choosing Exterior Security Lighting

image

Having a business can be a very rewarding yet stressful undertaking. One of the major concerns you likely have regarding your business is the level of security present. An essential element to help protect your property is a quality security system. Part of this system should be exterior security lighting. The fact is, proper lighting is one of the best ways to provide protection for your building and deter nefarious individuals. Here are a few things you need to consider when trying to put in the best security lighting possible for your business.

Get a Burglars Mindset

The first thing you need to do when trying to find the right exterior security lighting is how a burglar will perceive your building. You want to try and cover any of the blind spots you have around the exterior of the property. The fewer blind spots you have in your business, the easier it will be to deter would-be thieves. By putting yourself in the mindset of a thief, you will be better equipped to choose and position the lighting the right way.

Use Some Motion Sensors

Another important thing to consider when you are trying to protect the outside of your building with lighting is the use of motion sensors. Motion sensors offer a great way to catch a would-be robber and deter them with the element of surprise. Make sure you choose high-quality sensors for your property due to the danger that comes with having the sensors not work when you need them the most. When it comes to protecting your business, it is a good idea to consider the best way to secure the premises. One of the best ways to do this is by installing a quality security system that includes exterior lighting and motion detectors.

Tips to Ensure Your Kids Get To and From School Safely

With your kids back to school, you may be concerned about their safety when getting to and from their school each day. The good news is, you can provide your kids some helpful tips to ensure they arrive at and home from school safely.

Bus Riders

If your child rides the bus, make sure they know the following tips:

  • Don’t ever walk behind the bus or another vehicle
  • Be sure the bus has stopped completely prior to trying to get off
  • Don’t move around on the bus while it is moving
  • Only get off the bus at the assigned stop

Biking Safety Tips

If your child takes their bike to school, there are a number of tips that can help ensure they remain safe, which include:

  • They should always wear a helmet and have the proper bike locks and lights installed
  • Be sure they know the way to school and that they should stay on the bike path

  • Teach the child proper signaling and make sure they know the rules of the road
  • Always be sure they travel in the same direction as the traffic

Walking Safety Tips

While not as many kids walk to school as they did in the past, it is still important to make sure they know how to do so safely if this is the selected mode of transportation:

  • Only allow children who are 10 years (or older) to walk to school
  • Only cross the street at a crosswalk or intersection
  • Make sure they know the path well
  • Find a path that has crossing guards present

  • If it is after dark, find someone to walk home with
  • Don’t talk to anyone you don’t know

Taking the time to ensure your kids know how to get to and from school safely will give you peace of mind and ensure nothing bad happens. Remember, you should also ensure your kids are safe once they arrive home, especially if you are still at work. One of the best ways to do this is by installing a quality video surveillance security system. This will also let you know when they arrive home and if anyone else comes by.
